About Us
The farm has been in operation since 1923. The farm consists of 175 acres in Montague and Sunderland, MA. We are one of the state’s largest producers of asparagus. We also grow butternut squash and pumpkins. Farm is owned by Dan and Penny Smiarowski.

Where It All Began
D.A. Smiarowski’s land was first planted by Dan’s Polish-immigrant grandfather, Alexander, then by Dan’s dad, the late Eddie Smiarowski, who ran a dairy and grew pickling cukes, sweet corn, and, of course, asparagus. Along this same stretch of road, Eddie’s late brother, Stanley, also grew the crop.
“I had my father, and I had my Uncle Stanley,” Dan says as he stands on land his uncle knew inch by inch. “He was my second father.”
The fields along this road are his favorite. His late mother, Monica, worked here alongside her son, who would rise at 4:45 to pick before school.
“It’s a family farm—everybody has to help”
– Penny Smiarowski
Features
What We Grow
Asparagus
Asparagus is indeed a delicacy, much loved by consumers. Known as “the food of kings,” asparagus is a wonderful gift from nature.
Pumpkins
Locally grown, pumpkins! We grow a wide variety of pumpkin sizes and colors.
Winter Squash
The term winter squash is a bit of a misnomer: Harvested in the fall, these hardy vegetables will keep well through the cold winter months for which they’re named.
